About ACTS Metro
The ACTS Metro ministry exists to assist people in need within our community. We seek to impact families who are struggling through our Adopt a Family Program. ACTS Metro works closely with the school district's social workers who help us to adopt families who are struggling. Our Adopt a Family program adopts these families to provide them with food, a personal mentor , a life skills program and a community of volunteers that provide love and hope. The Adopt a Family program also helps families who are struggling with other necessities, such as doing yard work, and providing a Christmas celebration for their children. The Adopt a Family Program is a unique program that invests in the lives of those in our community.
ACTS Metro is financially supported by our annual fundraiser, "Going the Extra Mile" 5K, which will be held on May 22nd, 2010. For more information about the 5K, please go to GEM5K.com.
Adopt a Family Division
The Adopt a Family division of ACTS Metro consists of three areas: AAF Food Program, AAF Service Projects, and AAF at Christmas. The Adopt a Family Food Program provides food once a month to families who are struggling. These families are selected from our sponsored elementary schools. The AAF Service Projects assist selected elderly families to provide yard work, minor home repairs or monthly assistance as needed. The last area is the Adopt a Family at Christmas Program. Metro adopts families each Christmas from our sponsored elementary schools and provide these families with Christmas gifts
and food for the holiday.
Educational Division
ACTS Metro sponsors two programs that focus on improving the life skills of families struggling. Family Nights is a quarterly event held at Harbison West Elementary. This program provides a meal for the families, an educational element for the parents and an evening of fun activities for the children. The Fresh Start Program pairs individuals with a mentor who guides them through learning skills to obtain successful employment.
